A new official Google blog post has revealed that Google Bard is receiving several key updates, the most important of which are math tasks, question coding, string manipulation, and logic and reasoning skills.
The explains the blog post that Bard’s math and coding improvements are made possible by a technique called “implicit code execution”, which “helps Bard detect computational prompts and run code in the background.”
Meanwhile, improved logic and reasoning Bard of Google it results from the implementation of a well-studied dichotomy in human intelligence called System 1 vs. System 2 thinking. System 1 thinking is fast, intuitive and effortless, which can be called intuitive or “on-the-fly” thinking, while System 2 thinking is slow, purposeful and demanding effort like learning a new skill. Essentially, Bard will be combining large language models (LLMs) that run on System 1 thinking with traditional code that runs on System 2 thinking to create a more robust AI response system.
There is also another Bard update, which is the ability to export tables generated by Bard in response to a user command to Google Sheets. This is a great new feature that will hopefully be expanded to include other export options in the future.
Google Bard is getting more and more competitive
More recently, Google Bard seemed to be the laughing stock of AI apps, with a full launch failed confusing and conflicting goals even that Google’s own employees I believe he was pushed out of the gate too soon. But after he announced renovations and new features in progress Google I/O 2023 eventit looks like Bard is finally catching up in a big way.
ChatGPT is essentially the gold standard for AI chatbots; an application that every competitive chatbot faces. ChatGPT still outperforms Google Bard in almost every way, from coding to logic and reasoning to creative work and more.
But since Google I/O, it seems that Google is finally willing and able to play hard with the OpenAI baby, not only explaining Bard’s purpose, but also making him smarter adding many updates, tools and features now and in the coming months. It’s definitely not perfect, but it’s quickly approaching the levels that ChatGPT has reached.
Not to mention that Google has one major advantage over OpenAI and that is resources. Not only in money, which the technological giant has, of course, enough to invest in development, but also in its products.
Google Search has over 90% of the search market share, which automatically gives it the huge audience it needs to continue to test its AI answers while potentially plugging it into every possible search result – that’s billions of eyes on Bard. Google Workspace, meanwhile, allows you to integrate your apps with Bard in a much smoother way, as we’re already seeing in Google Sheets.
If OpenAI isn’t watching Bard’s development yet, it needs to keep a close eye on its biggest competitor yet.
