Apple users can get the productivity boost they want when it comes to using Microsoft Teams on their mobile device or tablet.
The video conferencing platform has revealed that it is working to bring picture-in-picture mode to iPhone and iPad users, allowing them to view multiple windows simultaneously on their device.
This could mean that users can make a video call on their device while viewing a useful document or presentation, without having to switch between apps and potentially interrupt the connection.
Picture-in-picture in Microsoft Teams for iOS
In official Microsoft 365 road map entry (opens in a new tab) for the update, the company notes that “a new picture-in-picture mode allows you to watch the meeting in an adjustable window while using other apps on your mobile device.”
The feature is still listed as “in development”, but its projected release date is December 2022, meaning users shouldn’t have to wait too long. Upon release, it will be available to all Microsoft Teams iOS users worldwide.
Premiere is the latest in a series of productivity-themed Microsoft Teams releases as it continues to try to make its platform more usable and efficient.
This includes a number of under-the-hood speed improvements aimed at improving the user experience when navigating Microsoft Teams, namely an improved framework that is now able to render HTML trees faster, run JavaScript, and serialize arrays more efficiently.
The company says these changes should contribute to a 30% speed increase when switching between Microsoft Teams chats or channels.
In other multitasking news, the company recently announced that in-app games are coming to Microsoft Teams.
However, Microsoft says that interacting through play is designed to address some of the biggest challenges of the hybrid workplace, including “the struggle to build trust, create connections, and improve team morale.”
It was also recently revealed that transcription of 1:1 and group chats is now available in the Microsoft Teams app for Android, giving users the option to review exactly what was said or skip any details.
Users will also be able to start meeting transcripts in the Microsoft Teams app for iOS and Android, and view meeting transcripts after calls end.
